Evaulation: exam unit

To start this exam unit I had to explore my exam theme, so to start with I picked a brief the brief being the illustration brief, the theme for this brief was perception, emotions, thoughts and imagination. So to start with i was looking at some of my perception that I put into some of my drawings and how the illustrator from the original book used that through out. Emotions I felt just came out of me and how I felt towards the book its self and the drawings I see, so I read the book and looked at the drawings in-depth to see what points where illustrated.
The imagination behind this project again came out of me and so to understand this i had to get drawing really and how I would see the book coming alive in my drawings. My plans for the final piece is to use color and techniques to really get out the emotional effects that i want to get across with my drawings.

the methods that I have used through out this project would have to be drawing elements of my subjects and my sources which helps a lot, another way of recording my observations was to be doing loads of annotating which is something I will admit I haven't done a lot of in the last projects but with this being the last project I felt like I didn't do as much.

My ideas at the start with just getting some drawings onto a simple A5 page and then maybe adding some text a bit like what the book has, but then I found out about etching and sort of went off the side of just drawing with only paper and started to look into my printing skills. My final ideas came across with loads of different designs to my characters and scenes before finally settling down with some designs that I felt fitted the roll of the character such as the white knight, I felt he should have a human body and chess piece head, I also tired this the other way round so with the house being the body and the knight head but i felt the first design was so much better.

The materials I have used though out this project would have to be pen and pencil in my drawings, I have also used mono printing which is a new thing I have had to master to experiment with in my book, and another thing I have also had to really master would have to be etching which is a type of printing that is a really good technique to be using in my book and final piece. The techniques I have used are that of drawing printing and also a bit of photo shop but I would have to say that drawing and printing was so much better in my techniques and with this I only had one problem which would really have to make me think about my timing in the exam is the time it takes to print with the etching plates.

The people who I fill have really inspired me though out this project have influenced me, first person is Elia Fernandez  her work I found was very line based and the use of colour with in her work was great for me to understand how I used colour with in my work and how to get a good outcome out of it.
This is her piece of work which I the best image Ive seen by her and her work has really inspired me as the way she uses layering of doubling the image of the mans head has made me want to experiment with this and possibly take this with in my exam and this could be easy with the etching behind my work as you can mark very lightly and be very nice. The second person who has inspired me would have to be david shrligey, as I keep saying though out this course, his work is very similar to my work I have always felt this because of the humour behind his and my work out side of college is the same style of humour in a way.
As you can see with this image it has a sort of humour behind it. The humour with this is just getting the side of the cow and what the cow would say if it could talk when a human is taking milk out of it.
The third and final artist that I have felt that has inspired me in this last and final graphics project has to be the work of Julia potts. We was shown her work in lesson at the start of this exam unit and I have always felt that her work really speaks out to her audience and to the art world for that mater. The thing I like about her work is her use of line and colour with in her work, it is never that much but when it is their, there is always meaning behind the work.
This image of a bear in a scarf is always a image I relate to when I think of Julia potts, I like how the bear is dressed up just like a human and is in fur which could be a very deep meaning with the whole fur wearing is wrong and not nice to animals, and for that reason I like her work because their is deeper meanings with in everything.

For my final piece I plan on drawing out 6 scenes from the book Through the looking glass by etching out the scenes. The first scene I wish to draw out is the most important scene in the book if you will, its the scene where alice is going through the glass onto the other side, I plan to use different line making on the other side of the glass to show off that she has gone though the glass. The second scene is where she is fighting the jabberwocky as it is a poem near the start of the book. The third scene is where she meets twiddle dum and twiddle dee. The fourth scene is where the white knight saves her and helps her up from the red knight. The fifth scene is where she places the crown on her head, and last but not least the sixth scene is where she wakes up and she releases it may have been a dream?.

I intend to use etching plates in my work which is basically a type of printing technique, you start of by scratching into the plate with a etching tool, what I have found is that it is like drawing basically but every mark you make gets printed onto the paper. After this you take this onto a roller and print the image onto paper that has been left in paper for about 5 minutes and the after this I will be using watercolour to bring in colour to the image to bring out the expressiveness of the image.

In-depth analysis of Elia Fernandez

This piece of work is made by the artist Elia illustration. She is a 24 year old from madrid who now lives in the netherlands in den haag. the piece of work that i have here is called ' My Astronaut" and the piece is a illustration which in away can be made into mix media to some people. The piece is a painting in some form, the piece was made in 2012 and was made for her own work but was then later exhibited. I have chosen to do a analysis on this piece as when I first looked at the artist/work I automatically feel in love with the way the artist has used colour with in this piece and the way the illustration comes out of the colour and shape of the body, I also love how the name goes well with the colour as it looks like a galaxy which would explain why the piece is called " my astronaut ". I am also looking at this piece as I am a illustrator my self and strong illustration such as this really interests me so when a piece like this comes along I have to in away do a analysis of it.

To get a better understanding of her work I looked her up on the internet but I could not find any website that she has created her self to show off her work other than hat of the website that lets you show off and put your work on it, the website is called deviant art ;Deviant art. That link right their is the link that shows you her work on the website, as you can see when you go on their their is a few pieces of work done by her on their which is nice to see but I really think she should make her own website for her work as she is a great illustrator. Here is a quote from her which was then used for this article which showed off a lot of her work: I’m trying to define my personal style through an specific way of transforming the reality. I extract segments of reality and combine them with illustration, making visible unreal elements so everyone can see them.” - Elia Fernández. After reading this quote from the artist her work makes a lot more since in so many ways, she says that she is using her own style to in away transform reality which is great and in some ways I try to do this in my own work so to find a artist who is a lot like me is really inspiring. o course the genre of art that this goes with is illustration and in away a new modern form of illustration which is my favourite sort of illustration.

The theme I would say that goes along with this piece of work would have to be space and in some sense dreaming. The title does make the work easier to understand as if their was no title you would wonder what the colouring is all about but with the title of " My astronaut" it makes so much sense. the subject mater is simply just what ever Elia Fernandez wants it could be a little story on its own. the artist i think has got inspiration just from looking up into the night sky and where she lives I can imagine the night sky being amazing and very clear.

The materials used for this would have to be water colour and maybe a fine liner is being used to get this effect, the techniques would have to be of course drawing and illustration an their is a bit of layering as you can see she did two heads and one of course was done before the other their for giving of the layering effect. the artist's use of colour is very well done as it gives the whole piece of work a different meaning as I have said before about the night sky and the title just goes well with the whole piece and goes well with the colour which brings back the meaning which is shown off very well in this, she has used deep dark colours which is what the whole space thing is all about which is good to see that she is trying to show off that. The work is sketch book size and the paper of the size is A4, which is a good size to one exhibit and two to work with which is what I find in my own work as you can get a lot more detail with in your work and more meaning in away. The textures with in the work is very clean lines and very tonal but looks great like that and really fits with her style.

My first reaction the work was that it is a very well drawn illustration and love everything about it from the colour and the title which I have said before. I love how its done on A4 piece of paper and also I love the style of her work and the colour elements that she has put with in her work. On thing I dont like is that the background is a bit plan maybe if their was some drip watercolour with in the background but then again this could easily make the work not as good as it is. the piece reminds me of work such as erin petson as he uses colour with in his work to. This has really inspired me to do more work like this because I really do fill like their is a link between me and this artist as she uses her own style to create her own way of reality which is what i try to do with in my work, and i think todays drawing of the day will be very different to my other drawings thanks to this artist.

digital experiments

This is my monoprint of a design of alice I did along time but I then wanted to see what the design would look like with in the technique of mono printing, when I saw that it came out this well and what I loved with mono printing is the fact that when you wanted to add a shadow effect and get it done well all you have to do is use your finger and rub in as the mono printing technique picks up any marks made on the page.

Exhibition review: The Photographer's Gallery-Perspectives on Collage

To start of this exhibition we had to first find our way to london, the exhibition was at the photographers gallery which is located right next to the oxford circus tube station. One person exhibiting at the gallery that we looked at with great detail was laura letinsky who takes photos of certain objects that relate to the theme and subject mater, and in some of her photos their would be drawings of some objects which gave the image a real serial look on things.

Underneath this text is all the pictures I took on the day when we all went down to the photographers gallery, one piece of imagery I found good was the second image down from this piece of text as it is a since of freedom as its not greatly detailed but has some sort of meaning behind it, but then again I dont like it in away as it is to childish to be in gallery of this high quality, a kid could of done this piece and possibly done it better in some sense but I think thats what its serposted to be.

One artist I liked at the exhibition was called Geraldo de barros he was born in 1923 and died in 1998, he never wanted to become a photographer and never really wanted to do this as a living and only really took fame when he got to a later age. Basically after a series of strokes and when he was only restricted to a wheelchair he took photography back up. With this in mind his daughter was looking though loads of old pictures and with the two years he had left which he of course didn't know he started the project sobras which of course didn't get finished and in the gallery now and with the rest of the work of sobras, the exhibition at the gallery is called what remains which is a great title for this piece and really has a lot of meaning behind the title alone.

digital experiments

The aim of this piece of work that I did was that of trying to match the work of Ciara Phelan, she works on digitail medium just like what I have tryed to do here. So to start with I had a random shape which in my case is a hexagon but ciara phelan normaly works with circles but in this case I wanted to see what the work would look like if I used I didnt object, I then got one primary photo which is of my sister and put it somewhere with in my work, I then got 3 different primary objects and that was of grass, a building and and chess piece. After I had my images I put them all around my hexagon to make the piece and once I was happy I started to crop things and even cut out things like I did with my sister to give a more random and serial effect in away.

Colourising and layer blending

This exercise wasn't the best piece of work I've done but I can understand why people would use this type of work with in their work, I think it was because of the images I used but Im just not to sure.
The techniques that I used when making this piece was of course using layering to build up the image its self. The equipment I used with this technique would have to be a camera of course to take the images and then I took it onto a mac which had photoshop so I could edit the images to fit into one piece. When using the techniques I didn't enjoy it as much as I do when Im drawing but none the less i still liked using something different in my work. When it came to working with the images I found it hard to get the images looking good together maybe this is because of the images I have chosen to use in my work. I would like to work with them again but only if I have some good images to work with in the piece of work and maybe a beter theme to the work. With this piece I didn't have any inspired artist in mind as it was tutail.

Chris ede ispired work

With this exercise, I really enjoyed doing as I sort of knew what I was doing because I have done this exercise before in my Btec class's but with those I did animals as the main subject mater but this time I have used my little sister and I also thought I would use a mirror as it is alice and she is going though the looking glass. The techniques I used in this piece of work was mainly layering so by getting loads of colours from the image of my sister and lifting them up and creating more layers. The equipment I used in this piece of work was of course a camera to take the pictures for this piece, I have also used photoshop to bring the technique to the max. When doing this piece of work I didn't enjoy the work as much as I would of liked to do this work by hand. I found the work very difficult to get like to a good level, and I still dont think that I have done very well so thats why Im not doing anything with in photoshop or anything to do with computers. I would not like to work with this sort of thing again as I really didn't enjoy doing this. The piece was inspired by the work of chris ede who does work like this all the time and has put up on you tube a lot of tutorials on how to do this type of work.

Raphael Vicenzi In-depth analysis

The piece of work was done by Raphael Vicenzi and he lives in Brussels belgium where he does all his work which is all done on advanced photoshop and on that note has been in featured in computer arts, illusive 2 and fashion wonderland. His work most of time conflicts on the fashion world and the beauty industry. The artist is 40 and is still working well with in the art industry. The work is called wolf mirror and is a water coloured painting if you will, and the work was made in 2008 and was made for it to exhibited for his own exhibition and wasn't for any clients or anything which in my opinion makes it better. I have chosen to analyse this piece because It is one of the best pieces I have seen with this artist and with this I would like to work like this but with a fine liner and use the fine liner for the colour shading in away.

www.mydeadpony.com/, this is the artist's website and as you can see is a very weird title of course but I think its great and if it gets people to your website by all means do it.An article/ interview that was done of him was done by one of our teachers that work here and this is how it went. The bits in bold is the whole interview.

CC: How would you describe your work or style?

RV: I think it's a weird mix of fashion illustration, street art, DYI,  typography & collage works. It's just a melting pot of different influences that found their way into my way of thinking. I try to stay spontaneous when I work now, I used to over think what I did.

CC: How do you find work or commissions?

RV: Usually people will contact me directly or go through my illustrator agency Colagene. They find me through my portfolio on Behance for example.

CC: Can you describe in a few words how you make your work?

RV: Either I have a pretty good idea of what I want to do or I just start a new piece and see where it leads me. Thus said the results are always very different from what I imagined. I just draw the woman, I use references a lot, then Ipile up textures & elements until I am happy with it. I try out different things until it clicks. The basic idea helps me to gather different elements that I just place around. Like I said, I try to be spontaneous when I work and hope for the best.

As you  can see he is a really cool artist who clearly replays to a lot of his fan base. The quote that came with this piece of work was of course wolf mirror which is basically saying when you look into the mirror most girls always says that look ugly or something that wouldn't be true and that would be the wolf mirror. A good quote from the artist that I found was from the internet although it isn't about the piece of work im looking at I felt that it should be in my indepth analysis; None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free this quote from the artist is very deep in away and not expected from a artist I fill, I fill the quote is very much him and really does speak about his work in away, Such as this piece "those who falsely believe they are free" this part I think makes a better understanding to the wolf mirror piece as in a way your self as free in the mirror to be who you want to, and this girl in her image is a wolf and maybe in away she doesn't believe that she is free in the real world so their for slaved. I would say that this work is portraiture and makes the work fill like its going somewhere, I think if it was landscape it would make the work fill as if its staying their and not moving but with this being portraiture creates a story about the girl in away and she is getting on with wolf in the mirror.

The theme is of course fashion which in a sense is why the picture is of a girl as you would normal asume with in fashion. With the title I really think it gives a in-depth meaning to the piece, as if you just had the image with no title a lot of people would just asume its a random image and has no meaning, so in away with this piece the title is really important to the piece as it gives the piece a meaning, which is of course the girl looking into a mirror and saying how she see's her self as a wolf, and this gives the view many different meanings behind the work which is great as people can say the work is more in-depth. The subject behind this I think is story based and in away the artist has become a story writer to the views who view the work, so for example I see this as a girl who see's her self as a beast and not very pretty in away and sort of doesn't see her life with much meaning, this is great to see in work these days as anyone can come up with a story behind this work and it would make sense. I think the artist has really found inspiration from the film snow white, as it has a mirror and a woman a bit like the queen from snow white who is jealous of not being the prettiest in the land and goes to the mirror to ask who is the prettest in the land and the mirror says not you of course and maybe this is what piece is about in a way.

The materials and techniques I think have been used in this would have to be paper which is then drawn with pencil to start with and the layered with a fine liner and then I think the artist has used watercolours to get a drip effect with the work. Skills used in this piece I would say is collage which is good as I have been doing collage recently with my work so looking at this artist has really inspired me to think about the space thats being used and maybe not being used to create a better understanding to the work. The artists use of colour starts off with the lines being very primary which then goes on to creating the image which can go back to the meaning as its like she see's things as basica and child like in a way. the colours are very basic other than those five primary colours leading to her head and it fills like its a rainy day so the mix of black, red and light blue almost fills like a murder in a way which goes back to the meaning a story telling. The scale of the work is important with this work I fill, the work is done with A2 and it makes the viewer see a lot more into the work along with the detail behind it and I fill if it wasn't as big the meaning to would have been lost in the mix of it. The formal elements are key with this artist the line making that the artist makes you one know its by the artist as the artist uses this a lot in their work, the texture behind this is all done to the watercolours with the dripping of the colour which once again goes back to meaning behind the work. The lines used also create a pattern which is very fashion based which is how this artist does work.

I have chosen to look at this work because the artist really relates to my work and is very inspirational.
My first reaction of this work was that it has a very deep meaning behind it which made me look at work more and more and learn to enjoy it more. I love the use of colour with in the work and the illustration the only thing that could be improved is the spacing of the word. The work reminds me off work that I have done before or have tried to do before. The only work that it reminds me of is that of lucinda rogers which is basically the same sort of techniques which I will have to do another in-depth analysis on. the work has really inspired me to do work on the type of work and I will have to give it ago over half term break but over all it is great piece of work by a great artist.

In-depth analysis: Julia Pott

Julia potts

The two pieces of work that i will be analysing are done by Julia Pott who graduated from the royal college of art in 2011 and since then has won a MA in animation as she also turns some of her characters that become her artworks. She does most of her work in NY Brooklyn.

The first piece that Im looking at is called here with me. the work is a illustration but in this case she has also made a animation of it which is really cool about Julia Pott, the work was also made in 2010 so this was at the end of her last year of Uni she did this piece of work. It was made for her personal self and is on her website for sale in copes and over forms. I have chosen to research this piece because It is the artist that most relates to my brief and she also sort of tells a story with her animations and it just seems fitting to do this for my work. The scale of the work is also done in A2 size paper .he meaning behind this is that two creatures have found them selfs in a random place in the world and have also come from two different halts of the world but yet can become one and be their with each other. the work was created with pens and fine liners then after touched up on photoshop such, I can imagery the colour would be done on photoshop/ illustrator. My personal response to the work is that it is very random and straight away yu can tell that the work is done by Julia Pott.I love the randomness of the work but yet the meaning behind it to is amazing, The only thing wrong with this would have to be one of the drawings it look like it was done by a 5 year old but I understand that It was surpassed to be like this.

This second piece is called kissed. The work is grab and once again the artist is really random which is right up her street. The work was made in 2012 and once again the work is done for her own work to sell to customers and put in and on her website. The size of the work is once again A2 work so is basically a poster to promote herself and her website. The work is I believe done all on photoshop, but I can imagern her drawing the characters before hand then scaning them in and layering up the photo of the desert and sky behind it. The meaning behind this one is that when two people start being attracted to each other they never find the right moment to kiss in away. Then when you finally go out with person you say to each other their was moments when could of kissed. My personal response to this work is that it is well done and the meaning behind it is deep and is well worth the work she put in this. One thing I really like is the colour range and the techniques behind the work, the only thing wrong with this is the darkness behind it is not great and would priffer her to do happier work.Over all the two pieces of work are really good and I really like the first one called here with me, the meaning behind it is much better than the other one and is much better done in the sense of technique and style.Other all she is a great artist and I will have to keep an eye out for her work in an exhibition.

Killers packaging

 The Killers,Hot fuss album cover.

This album was the first that the group had and was a hit as soon as it came out, the album its self is very basic as its the first album so they don't want to say to much about them self. From what I have researched they did most of their work in a hotel which is why they have on the cover of the album. The logo for the killers is very basic but created such a reaction and they have kept the logo with the dots and the words being felled with the dots which is really good that they have done that.

The killers, sam's town album cover
Now this album cover is a lot better, now it makes sense with the lyrics of the album being sams town and love the album as whole and the inlay is pretty amazing as it has pictures of the band in loads of different places of the desert, another thing that goes really well with this CD is that the CD its self has a picture of a ram on it and was a very iconic image for a long time after the album came out in 2006. The logo for the killers is still the same as the last time which I love to see with in a band, and also the effect of the black and white works really well with the album and then to have the sam's town is red and really sticks out to the eye. another thing I am seeing with in the albums is that the name of the album is always underneath the name of the band The killers.
The killers, Day and age
This album has one very famous song by the killers that a lot of people would associate with the killers which isn't the best thing to hear as the rest of the album wasn't great but never the less its the killers so it doesn't mater, this album cover art work is done very well as it matches with the bands logo which is to have the little dots that would make up the font, and then to have this though out the inlay as well is every good. Another thing thats really good to see is that the artist who did the cover then did this sort of style on the whole bands faces which was really good to see with in the inlay. The cover must of taken ages to do because the circles and the different sizes of them and all different colours when you go into the different layers of the piece.
The killers, Battle born
The latest album to come out the killers is called battle born, this cover is done very well and works really well with the first and last song of the album. The song goes on about a long road and black horse running down the road and going into the dessert, and in away the rest of the album is pictured like this album cover so with out this cover the album would in my eye fail. The logo is still the same which is great, the battle born font is done great it took me a little bit to notice because I was of course listening to the album, but the lightning bolt is making a E in stead of having normal font like the rest of the albums they have one made a logo for the album and it makes sense for one the songs of the album and maybe the whole album in a way.

The killers have been my favoiute band sinse I was young boy and they have been in my life for a very long time and even mixed in with my love life so basically for me the killers are the greatest band to come out of america and possibly the world.

David Shrigley

The artist who made this piece of work is David Shrigley, he is aged 44 and studied at glasgow school of art. He was born in scotland but did a art and design foundation in Lester, he had his first exhibition in a gallery called transmission gallery in glasgow where he was born. His last exhibition was in the hayward gallery in london which I did go and see on a school trip. The piece of work that I am looking at by David Shrigley is called Cat and Mouse. The work is done by the technique of line drawing, which is basic drawing lines, the piece is for an exhibition and was made in 2011 but exhibited in 2012. I have chosen to do this piece of work for the analysis because I find the work funny but yet dark in some sense. I also picked it because I find that my work can be related to his in some shape or form, and since I also use the same materials to create works I find it easier to look at the work.
The work when i went to see it was landscape and put up on a wall with a lot other drawings done by the artist, in a way its like all the works came together to make up one piece of work. The work has a theme which would be dark humour and illustration which is very my type of work. The work Is about a subject as cats and dogs have been in the publics eye natal enemies but here David Shrigley is saying they have finally made peace. The title really does explain the work because some people may think that the cat is another animal but with the title you can clearly see what animal he is trying to get across. Their is no real deep meaning behind this work he has just gone with a simple funny type of work and works very well.
The work was done by pen and paper very simple stuff. The skills are basically to use humour in the work with only a little bit of drawing skills only basic line drawings, the artist use's colour by not using any colour at all which gives the work space and meaning. With this it creates the effect of it being a dark and meaning full piece of work. The work is in between A4 and A5 so basically like a christmas card shape and in away it does make the work better as it says its not a massive problem but it is a big enough problem to put it up in a exhibition.
My first reaction to this piece was that it was a funny piece and had some meaning behind it and made me want to research it more.I like the humour behind it, the only thing that could be better is the drawing skills but then again that makes davids work better as you, the only thing that reminds me of this work is David Shrigleys own work which is really good as you will know his work anywhere. Finally I think david shrigley is one of the most inspiring people in the terms of my work, and I this may be one of my favioute piece's by him.

personal project ,Final evaluation

Evaluation

When we first started our personal project we had to come up with our own personal brief, this would include the brief paragraph that would explain what I will be doing though out the personal project, their will also be a tiny pointer on how the last project relates to this project, I also had to include the assessment objectives with some artist/designers that I could look at and finally I had to have a checklist with the final deadline date. When I was coming up with the ideas for the project I thought of what I was good at in past projects and one thing that came up was when I did a flash animation for BTEC. I then got experimenting with ways of doing something to fit with the brief in the end I came up with the idea of doing a music video for a song of my choice and making a animation to go with it.

The creative journey I took though out the project was pretty good because at the start I started to draw a lot in my sketch book, so I would be drawing in every lesson many different things such as serial things happening in every page along with annotations and different drawing techniques to go along with the main drawings on the page. it started out to be a drawing type project but as the project progressed I found my self working more on the computer with flash and animation so I chose to set my brief around that. I took research into david shrigley at the start as Ive said before I was drawing a lot and since me and him share the same sort of drawing humour I felt this was a good thing.-

The one animation that really inspired me to do a flash type animation was this animation by alexander gellener:

I love the idea behind this work, although I don't think he did the animation on flash as such but flash seems to be the nearest program I can get to being at that level.

The thinks I think I have done well in the project is the style of the animation just works with the music that I choose to do for the project and the amount of slides I have done for the project and in the end I am very happy with my outcome and think it should go well with my coursework. The things I could of improved in is the quality of the slides but with the amount of time I had I think the quality is good for what I wanted.

To conclude he overall project I just think it has been my most enjoyable project from start to finsh, when doing in-depth analysis in other projects I have not found the  reason why I am doing it but with this project everything seems to flow well.At the start of the project I had a lot of funny drawing every lesson coming up with loads of different ideas a experiments with in drawing. The techniques That I would like to improve on is my flash skills and maybe find more and more drawing styles and ways of drawing with in art/graphics.

Final Mock exam piece

personal studie

This year in the terms of graphics and my coursework I have had an on going theme of music. I started with the As to A2 project which evolved into my summer assignment, during this summer assignment I experimented with a wide range of different experiments, from the use of typography in images to stitching out different things in fabric. When we got back we still had the theme of music running though our work as we got set a brief to make/design a CD packaging, with this we could design any album and any artist we wanted, so I chose the band The Killers. After this project we had to do our personal project where we would still somehow relate our work with the on going theme of "music". With this personal project we had to pick our strongest skills with in graphics and think of something to do that would fit in with music, I choose to do a flash animation to a song of my choice" cough cough".
Though out my AS graphics I looked at a lot of stencil work and a lot of illustration work, one person that really inspired me to draw and do work like him was an artist called David Shirgley. As a class we went on a trip to London to see his exhibition, whilst there I felt that me and him had the same sort of humor with in our drawing techniques, this influenced my work by making me draw more quirky funny things with in my work. This was all good but the work of some street artist such as banksy really inspired me and influenced my work in stencils and at the final exam I choose to do a series of stencils of famous land marks around London, such as Tower Bridge, St Paul’s and the city hall. During the AS to A2 project I analyzed 3 different album covers, Chemical Brother push the button, The Shins chutes to narrow album cover and the Coldplay X & Y Cd album cover. When research these album covers I researched the inlay by going to a local CD shop and physically looking at them, I also researched it only by going on the official website of what ever CD I choose to do. The most influence I got from the artist of the album covers was the simple ways of The Shins album cover, and the way when you opened the inlay you discovered more to the CD and more to what the lyrics mean in the songs them selves.  When looking at different artist and contextual links I chose to look at the work of Jacob Skarin and my first reaction this piece of work was that it looks a bit plain a bit boring but when you realize who the target audience is and what the product actually is, you realize that it fits well with the product so therefore is not a bad design .The jukebox is just a CD packaging and no band goes with it and the other box is a Nokia box which is a phone company. Jakob Skarin made these three products and with him he has a very different style but yet it stays with his product design as he goes on and makes them which is a really good thing .The sort of people who would listen to a football song CD would be those who go down to watch games on a regular basis so I would say the target audience is middle-aged men or young adults. The text and the imagery for what I can see on this CD cover is very in your face text its suppressed posted to be loud and get the message across and the imagery is just people playing football and a grassy background to relate to the football theme. I heard about this contextual link from a teacher who said this would be more up my street in the way the packaging is done. The advice given back from teachers and peers about my development and ideas was very good so when I came up with the idea of doing The Killers as my band and the theme that I did with the CD work they said I put together the songs with the theme as in its very rocky type music and in the inlay I put a grunge effect of rocks and overlaid them which worked very well. Only in-depth analysis I did was of the work of David Shirgley. The artist who made this piece of work is David Shrigley, he is aged 44 and studied at Glasgow school of art. He was born in Scotland but did an art and design foundation in Lester, he had his first exhibition in a gallery called transmission gallery in Glasgow where he was born. His last exhibition was in the Hayward gallery in London, which I did go and see on a school trip. The piece of work that I am looking at by David Shrigley is called Cat and Mouse. The work is done by the technique of line drawing, which is basic drawing lines; the piece is for an exhibition and was made in 2011 but exhibited in 2012.
The work is about a subject as cats and dogs have been in the public’s eye natal enemies but here David Shrigley is saying they have finally made peace. The title really does explain the work because some people may think that the cat is another animal but with the title you can clearly see what animal he is trying to get across. There is no real deep meaning behind this work he has just gone with a simple funny type of work and works very well.
My first reaction to this piece was that it was a funny piece and had some meaning behind it and made me want to research it more. I like the humour behind it, the only thing that could be better is the drawing skills but then again that makes David’s work better as you, the only thing that reminds me of this work is David Shrigleys own work which is really good as you will know his work anywhere. Finally I think David Shrigley is one of the most inspiring people in the terms of my work, and I this may be one of my favourite piece's by him. Another in depth analysis I did was that of copyrights stencil work along with illustration to make his pieces.
The person that made the art/design is someone named copyright uses a mixture of different techniques such as illustration which is what I'm looking at right now, and stencil/ graffiti which goes together really well and is really cool. This artist is not very known, he does street art which is then sold on his website. The piece that I’m looking at is just simply a piece of street art and illustration goes into a lot of his work to help him out with all his stencils. It has been exhibited to the pubic as it is street ar. I have chosen to research this piece due to the fact that he is relating to my work in the illustration way but also he has done graffiti and in my artwork. I am working on a street art piece in my other lesson so in that way it related to my work and me.

The piece its self is called American princess, then shortly after this he redone the work by making American princess 2 with is basically the same as this but with a different angle of the girl and different dress along with some different backgrounds. One famous quote by the artist is, is fear not money? As implying that when you have fear you will then get money so in a way it fits in with his work very well as he does street art and that is all about fear and the fear of not getting court doing it is very overwhelming and at the end of the day he gets money out of it so his quote really does make sense.
The theme I he is trying to show off is that of how the girls in America are seen as princess but in realty they are nothing more that some street art so basically calling them a tramp in a sort of way, you get this understanding from the title and when you look into the work with more detail. I think with this work it is all about a story of a girl in America trying to find her way which is why he made two of the piece with different titles. I think the artist has found inspiration from just living in America, which just sums up why he did this piece.

The materials he has used are spray paints as you can clearly see all around the piece, you can see he has used pencils maybe pens to get the image onto a stencil maybe, also it looks like it may have been touched up in Photoshop so he would have used a mac for this work. The artist has gone for the rough effect so he has used bright colours but in a bad way so this is very effective to the piece as a whole. The work doesn't look like its massive but it would prop fit a wall somewhere.

My first reaction to this work is that it looks really cool the only thing I really dislike about this piece is that I is taking the piece out of American girls saying they are rich but I don't think the artist has seen what some American girls go though out in the states to get a good understanding of what is going on. This work has really inspired me to go on and try out many different types of stencilling and for that I am very great full I stumbled across this artist he is great.
The comparison of these two artist are really different, one is an some what doodle list and the other is a street artist, but both artist have inspired me though out my graphics work. But as I have already said
In the personal project I put the link from my song of the summer by choosing to do a video for a song of my choice. I researched once again the work of David Shirgley as at the time I didn’t know what type of theme I would be having for the final piece, I also looked at the work of copyright, the stencil artist, who uses stencils and a lot of different mixed medias across her work. I then took the influence they gave me a put it into moving images. The contextual research didn’t have a big inference on my work because when I got to the idea generating of ideas I came up with doing a flash animation a both artist didn’t have anything to do with flash animation although my drawings in the animation can sort of relate to the artist and work of David Shirgley. The final piece went down very well with my peers and teachers, with this final piece they said theirs was no room for improvement apart from a longer video as I could only do 30 seconds of work with in the song due the scale I was working on and the time as well, along with this my sketch book had enough drawings in it to meet the requirements.
