The imagination behind this project again came out of me and so to understand this i had to get drawing really and how I would see the book coming alive in my drawings. My plans for the final piece is to use color and techniques to really get out the emotional effects that i want to get across with my drawings.
the methods that I have used through out this project would have to be drawing elements of my subjects and my sources which helps a lot, another way of recording my observations was to be doing loads of annotating which is something I will admit I haven't done a lot of in the last projects but with this being the last project I felt like I didn't do as much.
My ideas at the start with just getting some drawings onto a simple A5 page and then maybe adding some text a bit like what the book has, but then I found out about etching and sort of went off the side of just drawing with only paper and started to look into my printing skills. My final ideas came across with loads of different designs to my characters and scenes before finally settling down with some designs that I felt fitted the roll of the character such as the white knight, I felt he should have a human body and chess piece head, I also tired this the other way round so with the house being the body and the knight head but i felt the first design was so much better.
The materials I have used though out this project would have to be pen and pencil in my drawings, I have also used mono printing which is a new thing I have had to master to experiment with in my book, and another thing I have also had to really master would have to be etching which is a type of printing that is a really good technique to be using in my book and final piece. The techniques I have used are that of drawing printing and also a bit of photo shop but I would have to say that drawing and printing was so much better in my techniques and with this I only had one problem which would really have to make me think about my timing in the exam is the time it takes to print with the etching plates.
The people who I fill have really inspired me though out this project have influenced me, first person is Elia Fernandez her work I found was very line based and the use of colour with in her work was great for me to understand how I used colour with in my work and how to get a good outcome out of it.
This is her piece of work which I the best image Ive seen by her and her work has really inspired me as the way she uses layering of doubling the image of the mans head has made me want to experiment with this and possibly take this with in my exam and this could be easy with the etching behind my work as you can mark very lightly and be very nice. The second person who has inspired me would have to be david shrligey, as I keep saying though out this course, his work is very similar to my work I have always felt this because of the humour behind his and my work out side of college is the same style of humour in a way.
As you can see with this image it has a sort of humour behind it. The humour with this is just getting the side of the cow and what the cow would say if it could talk when a human is taking milk out of it.
The third and final artist that I have felt that has inspired me in this last and final graphics project has to be the work of Julia potts. We was shown her work in lesson at the start of this exam unit and I have always felt that her work really speaks out to her audience and to the art world for that mater. The thing I like about her work is her use of line and colour with in her work, it is never that much but when it is their, there is always meaning behind the work.
This image of a bear in a scarf is always a image I relate to when I think of Julia potts, I like how the bear is dressed up just like a human and is in fur which could be a very deep meaning with the whole fur wearing is wrong and not nice to animals, and for that reason I like her work because their is deeper meanings with in everything.
For my final piece I plan on drawing out 6 scenes from the book Through the looking glass by etching out the scenes. The first scene I wish to draw out is the most important scene in the book if you will, its the scene where alice is going through the glass onto the other side, I plan to use different line making on the other side of the glass to show off that she has gone though the glass. The second scene is where she is fighting the jabberwocky as it is a poem near the start of the book. The third scene is where she meets twiddle dum and twiddle dee. The fourth scene is where the white knight saves her and helps her up from the red knight. The fifth scene is where she places the crown on her head, and last but not least the sixth scene is where she wakes up and she releases it may have been a dream?.
I intend to use etching plates in my work which is basically a type of printing technique, you start of by scratching into the plate with a etching tool, what I have found is that it is like drawing basically but every mark you make gets printed onto the paper. After this you take this onto a roller and print the image onto paper that has been left in paper for about 5 minutes and the after this I will be using watercolour to bring in colour to the image to bring out the expressiveness of the image.
